how did you get your blacks so black without using charcoal? i find that when i try, it becomes shiny and veber really becomes black.

To be honest the actual drawing is not quite as black as this image ... but for the hair I used a 4b AIN mechanical pencil, I find this quite dark, but it will be shiny, but fixative usually removes alot of the shine ... on my latest portrait 'Lemmy from Motorhead' I used Wolffs Carbon pencils along with graphite, I find the carbon pencils easier than charcoal to work with, they are very black and are not shiny (I would recommend these)... hope this helps
